Stella Di Mare is the northern end, 4 km from the port. Airport time is for ordinary traffic, longer at Cairo's peaks; distances by coast road; height approximate.
The roads to the coast, and what closes them
- The Qattamia–Ain Sokhna road88 km from the Ring Road to Sokhna, with a toll gate at the far end. The limit for cars is 120 km/h, and none of the times on this page assumes more. Set off early, above all on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Where the road meets the seaIt reaches the coast about 10 km south of Stella Di Mare, so from Cairo, Galala, Porto Sokhna and La Vista are only 10 to 25 minutes further than Stella on a clear road. Along the coast, Stella to Porto takes about 40 minutes.
- Fog before dawn in winterOn 12 December 2024 the Qattamia–Ain Sokhna road was closed in both directions from about 03:00 to 09:00 for fog. If you have a morning flight in winter, the safer plan is to spend your last night in Cairo.
- The Galala road as a diversion82 km across the plateau, three lanes each way, rising to 770 m. Flash floods closed the coast road near Telal and Porto Sokhna in February 2019, and closed it again in February 2021; both times traffic was sent this way.
From the arrivals hall to the village gate
- Cairo International AirportOne agreed meeting point in the arrivals hall. Waiting runs from your actual landing, and the first 60 minutes are free. See the arrivals guide.
- Sokhna port cruise terminalInside a working cargo port with no taxis waiting, so the car is booked before the ship docks. Your chauffeur stands at the main exit gate after port checks, with the ship's name and time.
- Stella Di Mare and the north endAbout 4 km from the port. We meet you at the hotel door or the village gate; if the gate asks who is coming, give it the name and plate we send you the day before.
- Galala City and its universityThe city has a shore district and a plateau district, and the university is up on the plateau, a 24 km climb from Porto Sokhna. Tell us in the request which part you need.
- Il Monte Galala to Mountain ViewAbout 40 km of coast, with Porto Sokhna, Telal and La Vista in between. Give us the resort's full name, and the unit number if you have one; we meet you at the door or the village gate.
The whole coast is within reach: Sokhna port and Stella Di Mare in the north, then Il Monte Galala, Galala City and Porto Sokhna, Telal and La Vista, down to Mountain View Sokhna, and Galala University on the plateau above.

Know your chauffeur before you meet
The day before your journey, one message reaches you: the chauffeur’s name and number, the car photographed with its plate, and the pickup time.
- We do not publish photographs of our chauffeurs. We publish their names, their years of service, the languages they speak, and written standards you can read.
- The chauffeur’s number opens two hours before pickup and closes when the journey ends.
- If the chauffeur or the car changes for any reason, a new message reaches you before the appointment.
Before you head down to Sokhna
Is there an airport at Ain Sokhna?
No, nor at Galala. The usual way in is Cairo International, and from there Stella Di Mare is 1:45 to 2:15 away; resorts further south take longer.
We live in New Cairo. Is the drive shorter from there?
Yes. New Cairo to Stella Di Mare is about 115 km, and the New Administrative Capital about 100 km; both are closer than central Cairo. Your pickup time is worked out from your own address.
Our delegation has one day at Sokhna port. How are the cars organised?
A single coordinator and a written timetable: out from Cairo in the morning, back after the last meeting. The port, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, is at the northern end of the coast. More on the conferences page.
We are spending the day in Sokhna and want to return at night.
That is possible, provided the chauffeur has rested 9 hours before any night drive, a rule without exceptions. If he drove you down that morning and has not had that rest, we say so plainly and propose another time.
Which resort, and on what date?
A written, itemised quotation follows within 15 minutes, between 09:00 and 23:00 Cairo time. Name the resort itself, not just Sokhna; the timing and the quotation are both worked out from it.
